It’s springtime…pollen is in the air and your allergies are probably not happy.
Springtime also means it’s time to start mowing lawns again in St. Tammany Parish. So we’re anxiously awaiting our first call from a customer who unknowingly shut their own AC system down by blowing lawn debris into the unit.
Yes you read that right…if you’re moving your lawn and blowing debris into your AC system, you could be causing damage.
Old AC System Design
Traditional AC systems were designed to vent the air through the top like the one below. Yes there are protection grates, but PLENTY of leaves, pine needles and grass clippings get in through the top.
That debris gets in your system and sits on top of your coils. Best case is it reduces your system performance. Worst case is it causes enough damage to shutdown your system and warrant a service visit.
New AC System Design
New systems from Trane have improved on the old design by venting the air DOWNWARDS and to the SIDE as you can see below.
It’s much harder for debris to get into the system.
The Moral of the Story…
When you blow leaves or lawn cuttings, direct them AWAY from your AC system. Your system will thank you, and so will your checkbook.
But if you forget and your system isn’t running as well is it should be, call us we’ll be happy to get it back up and running for you!
